Is it hard to look over your shoulder? Is there a constant pulling or throbbing pain in your neck? Do you hear grinding as you turn your head? Instead of using drugs to cover up the pain, it’s time to find a better solution!

Neck pain is not caused by a lack of Aspirin in the body, it’s usually mechanical in nature. This means that the bones and muscles are not functioning in an optimal maner. Doctors of chiropractic are trained to examine and locate the sorce of the problem and can give real solutions to help correct the malfunction in the mechanics of the spine. You may be thinking How? Well, by examining your range of motion (ROM), neurological signs, orthopedic testing, muscle strength/function and (if necessary) x-rays, we can see the cause of the problem….not just cover it up.

One study published in the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics found that patients who received chiropractic care reported significant improvement in their neck function and reduction in their neck pain whereas those taking pain killers did not.

Still not convinced? Then why not come for an exam and see for yourself. Here at Stones River Chiropractic we will show you the results of your tests and xrays before we start treatment. We want you to see the problem and understand the solution before we begin.

You’ve heard about this condition and know that it has something to do with a pain inthe wrist. But what is a “carpal tunnel”? The carpal tunnel is a passageway throughyour wrist. Nerves and muscles from your hand and fingers pass through this tunneland up the arm. Sometimes, the important median nerve that supplies motion andfeeling to your fingers and hand can be pressed or squeezed. When the nerve functionis impaired by this pressure, you have carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS).

The symptoms of CTS can be numbness, burning, itching or tingling in your hand orfingers. In severe cases, carpal tunnel syndrome can make it difficult to grasp objects,or to feel hot or cold. Women are three times more likely to have the condition thanmen. It is rare in children.

What causes CTS? Many people believe too many hours spent on a keyboard can causeCTS. However, a study at Mayo Clinic found this is not the case. In fact, any number offactors can cause the condition, including:

· Carpal tunnels that are naturally narrow
· Injury
· Retention of fluid during pregnancy
· Diseases such as Diabetes, Thyroid conditions and Arthritis
· Obesity
· Regular use of vibrating hand tools and other issues with work ergonomics

Your chiropractor can diagnose and treat CTS, providing pain relief and exercises tosupport your healing. He or she may prescribe resting the hand and wrist for a periodof time, applying a splint to immobilize the wrist, stretching or strengthening exercises, icing the wrist, or joint manipulation.

Preventive care is a big part of pain management and overall health and wellness throughout your life. A chiropractic health center like Premier Chiropractic and Wellness can offer you education and therapies that will help you avoid and deal with back issues.

Here are a few tips for preventing back pain and overall joint pain:

1. Maintain good posture when sitting or standing.
2. Watch your weight; excess weight places additional strain on your back.
3. Warm up before doing physical work or exercise.
4. Stay active and follow a regular pattern of exercise to keep your muscles and joints flexible.
5. When lifting, bend at your knees, hold the object close to your body and lift from your legs.
6. Avoid sleeping on your stomach, which can strain your neck and back.
7. If you spend long periods of time in a chair at work, talk with your chiropractor about the best ergonomic options.
